Biggest Winners

In May 2022, the Texas Lottery launched $20 Million Supreme, the first scratch off costing $100. It offered four top cash prizes of $20 million – the largest ever seen on a scratch ticket in Texas.

One of the winners was a resident of Harlingen, who purchased their ticket at Breaktime #2, located at 204 E. Highway 83, in La Feria.

The claimant decided to stay anonymous but did reveal to Texas Lottery officials that the excitement of the big win left them shaking. They said: “Initially, I thought it was a $20,000 (win). I was on the phone with my dad when I realized it was $20 million. That was my fifth of five tickets that I purchased. I scanned the barcode first, so I knew it was a winner, but I thought it would be a small prize. When I got to my truck, I realized how much I won.”

The winner revealed that they would use the money to take care of their family, while they would invest the remainder of the prize.

Another big scratch off winner is Joan Ginther, who has been dubbed the world’s luckiest lottery player after winning multimillion-dollar prizes on four separate occasions.

After first claiming $5.4 million on Lotto Texas in 1993, she carried on playing and landed $2 million in the Holiday Millionaire scratch off in 2006. A couple of years later, she won $3 million from a Millions and Millions ticket.

Ginther’s largest win was still to come. In 2010, Ginther claimed a jackpot of $10 million in the $140,000,000 Extreme Payout scratch off. She had bought her $50 ticket in the city of Bishop, from the same convenience store as one of her previous wins.
