Claiming Prizes in New York

Learn how to claim a prize from scratch-off games in New York, whether you win a multimillion-dollar jackpot or just a small payout.

Do NY scratch-off tickets expire? It’s a common question and the answer is that there is a cut-off time for claiming of one year after a game has closed.

This gives you lots of time to claim, but always make sure that you sign the back of your ticket and keep it safe until you come forward. Find out what you need to do for prizes of different values.

Claiming By Prize Value

Prizes of $600 or Below – You have three options for claiming if you win a prize of up to $600. The easiest method is to take your ticket to a licensed New York Lottery retail location and redeem your winnings there and then. Alternatively, you can mail it in to the NY Lottery or schedule an appointment at a Customer Service Center.

Prizes Above $600 – You can’t simply cash in prizes of this value at your local retailer. You can either schedule an appointment to collect your prize at one of the NY Lottery’s Customer Service Centers, redeem it at a local prize claim center, or mail in your winning scratch ticket. You will also need to complete a claim form and provide a valid government-issued ID, along with a valid Social Security Number or FEIN.
