The largest prize ever offered on a Massachusetts Lottery scratch-off ticket has been $25 million, on the $50 Billion Dollar Extravaganza instant game. One of the first winners was revealed to be Desiree Fortini-Craft of Hyde Park in November 2023. She purchased her ticket in West Roxbury.
Fortini-Craft did not claim her prize immediately. Instead, she kept the ticket safe while she went on holiday to Aruba. She decided to take the cash option of $16.3 million after taxes, and revealed that she had already booked another trip to Aruba for Christmas. The lucky winner added that she would spend the money on paying off her daughter’s student loans, buying a new car, and lots of family purchases.
Remarkably, the Masssachusetts Lottery revealed that Fortini-Craft’s big win was not the only one of her life. She had also won $1 million on another scratch-off in 2006.
Another of the $25 million prizes went to a trust from Woburn, known as the Simmons & Schiavo Lottery Trust 2023-28. The winning ticket was purchased at Speedway, 709 McGrath Highway in Somerville.
