You have two opportunities to win when you play a lot of instant games in Massachusetts. If you don’t uncover any prizes when you first scratch off, you can get a second chance by submitting your non-winning ticket into promotions run by the MA Lottery. You can enter online or via the Mass Lottery app. You’ll need to have a player account to take part (previously known as the Red Carpet VIP Club), which just requires you to register and create a password.
Look out for upcoming promotions so that you know which scratch games you’ll be able to enter into the drawings. You’ll also find the entry deadline.
Each promotions comes with its own set of rules and detailed instructions about how to submit entries, but they generally work in a similar way.
You don’t even need to type in a ticket number or code anymore to enter. Instead, just make sure you have the Mass Lottery app and tap the ‘Scan Ticket’ button. Position the barcode of your instant ticket within the camera view finder and the ticket numbers will be automatically entered into the relevant boxes. You can then tap the ‘Submit Entry’ button.Entries will be clearly displayed in your account, then you can just wait for the draw to take place. For each promotion, there is usually a number of Second Chance drawings, with each one paying out a set number of prizes.
Your odds of winning therefore depend on how many entries you submit, and the total number of entries that have been received.
The top prize might be a big cash payout such as $500,000 or even $1 million, or perhaps something different such as a luxury experience or a merchandise pack.
If you win a prize, you will be notified by the Massachusetts Lottery. As soon as all the results are verified, the winners’ names and hometowns will be published.
