Big Maryland Scratch Prize Winners

Although most Maryland winners opt to stay anonymous, many winners are happy to provide a statement, and the MD Lottery is pretty on-it when it comes to publishing them compared to other states. Although we don't have any names, here are some exciting stories from scratch-off players who struck gold.

$500,000 – ($20) Gifts of Green – Anonymous Couple (Dundalk)

2026 – This anonymous couple won big while shopping at a local Walmart. The wife opted to get a $20 'Gifts of Green' scratch-off after her husband noticed it still had a few of the top prizes left. Once they'd got home and unpacked the groceries, she took a moment to scratch the ticket and discovered they'd won. The husband could tell it was a big win by his wife's stillness, and the look in her eyes. The couple planned to buy a new vehicle with the money and put the rest into their retirement fund: "We've been trying to figure out how retirement was going to work for us. This takes away so many of the worries."

$5,000,000 – ($50) $5,000,000 LUXE – Maurice Williams (District of Columbia)

A school bus driver from D.C. landed one of the biggest scratch-off prizes you'll find in the country. Williams stopped at a 7-Eleven in Hyattsville on his way to work to cash in a $50 prize he'd won playing the same '$5,000,000 LUXE' scratch-off. He put his win right back to work, purchasing another ticket of the same value. It was almost a disaster, as Williams initially didn't notice the winning match on his ticket, and only discovered the win when scanning the ticket. Always scan your tickets, folks! The matching number, 59, caught his attention as Williams had just turned 59 a couple of days prior. Willimas called his mother to share the good news – the one thing he was certain about regarding his winnings is that he'd be buying his mother a house. Other than that, Williams had some serious thinking to do.

$1,000,000 – ($20) 100X the Cash – "Mr and Mrs Spry" (Kent County, DE)

This Delaware couple lived in Maryland for a stint and picked up the habit of playing MD scratch-offs, a habit which continued even after they moved back to Delaware. The couple would visit Maryland every Friday, pick up some tickets, and play them back home in Kent County. In this case, the winning ticket was purchased at a grocery store in the aptly named border town of Marydel. The couple claimed their prize on September 2, 2026. "Mr Spry" enjoys fishing, and hopes to use the prize to start a business.
