Scratch off prizes in Maryland under $600 are able to be claimed at any authorized Maryland Lottery retailer. This is only if the retailer has the cash to be able to give you your winnings, stores are not required to have this cash amount at all times.
For any prizes between $601 and $5,000, you can usually redeem these at Expanded Cashing Authority Program (XCAP) retailers. However, you may be required to claim in person at the Maryland Lottery Headquarters. (XCAP retails are not able to cash prizes over $600 for resident and non-resident aliens, i.e. your tax begins with "9".)
Prizes that are between $5,001 and $25,000 can be claimed at the Maryland Lottery Headquarters or cashier's windows at Maryland casinos. (Please note, you must be at least 21 years old to enter a Maryland casino.)
If you win a prize over $25,000, it must be claimed at the Maryland Lottery Headquarters. This will need to be by appointment.

If you are claiming for prizes larger than $600, please be sure to include a copy of your photo ID and a copy of a document showing proof of your Social Security number.
Any lottery prize between $601 and $5,000 are taxable and the individual winner is required to report it in their state tax return. Maryland�s local county income taxes also apply to lottery prizes, these can be between 2.25% and 3.2%.
If you are a Maryland resident, the state tax withholding is 9.5% for any prize above $5,000. For any non-residents this rate is 8.75%. Additionally, winnings over $5,000 are subject to a federal withholding tax of 24%.
