The Maine Lottery was officially created in 1973, with the first scratch ticket going on sale in 1974, so Maine fans have been winning scratch prizes for over 50 years. In that time, some enormous prizes have been won, including some valued at millions of dollars.
On this page, we'll check out some of the most recent scratcher wins, along with some of the biggest wins we were able to get a decent story for!
The Maine Lottery rarely publishes the details for big scratch ticket winners, but they do have a dedicaed page for winners who don't mind sharing - to be honest though, it looks like they've not updated the page in years. Regardless, we check every week or so to see whether any new wins have been registered. Check out the table below to put some names to those prizes!

Most big lottery winners stay private about their wins, but these lucky fans decided to share their stories…
2025 - Robert Stuart hadn't initially planned on getting a lottery ticket when he visited the Kennebunk Hannaford (a New England supermarket chain, if you're not from the area) – in fact, he'd already left the store when something made him turn around, walk back inside, and grab a $25 Ultimate Millions ticket at the vending machine. That was a good call, as the ticket ended up winning Stuart a million dollars. After tax, he took home $710,000, and the Hannaford where the ticket was purchased received a $10,000 bonus for selling the winner.
The first of the four $1,000,000 top prizes in this edition of Ultimate Millions was won by John Gregg who, like Robert Stuart, also has two forenames – perhaps this is what it takes to win an Ultimate Millions top prize. His lucky ticket was purchased in Sanford at a Lil Mart. Gregg claimed the prize on April 13, 2017, with his wife Stephonie at the Maine Lottery HQ.
2018 - Peter Alley, a school custodian, stopped by a Mobil On The Run store and picked up a $20 '$500,000 Payout' scratch ticket. True to name, it was a top prize winner, landing Alley a $500,000 payout, which ended up $355k after taxes. What makes Alley's story particularly impressive is that, just 18 months prior, he'd already won a $100,000 top prize in the $5 '$100,000 Bonanza'. The odds of winning each game were 1 in 137,143 and 1 in 264,000 respectively. Alley told his wife and kids he'd won, but didn't say how much at first. He took them to dinner and said they could order whatever they wanted, on his dime, presumably, before sharing the good news. Alley planned to continue working and save for retirement, with his big purchase being a second-hand boat (so he's probably used it all up by now).
