It only takes a couple of steps to submit losing tickets, so all you need to do in preparation is keep an eye out for which games are eligible and then hold on to your scratch cards. Winning tickets cannot be used - try to submit one and your entry will be invalidated.
Make sure you have an online account with the Minnesota Lottery. The registration process is quick and easy if you’re not already signed up - you just need to provide a couple of details and you’ll be approved as long as you are at least 18 years old.
All you need to do then is locate the 10-digit Second Chance code found under the latex coating of your ticket. Each non-winning ticket you submit will give you one entry into the Second Chance drawing.
The entry deadlines and draw dates can all be found on the website, so once you have entered you can just sit back and wait to find out if you are a winner.
The prize structure is different for each promotion, but there are usually multiple winners in each one. The top prize might be a substantial cash amount such as $10,000 or more, followed by a series of consolation prizes. These might include a lower cash payout and a lottery prize pack, with merchandise such as clothing and a mug.
Winners are announced shortly after each drawing takes place. If you are awarded a prize, you have a year from the date of the Second Chance draw in which to make your claim.
