Claiming Prizes in Iowa

Redeeming your prizes from Iowa scratch off games is simple, just choose which method is suitable for you and the amount that you won. However you make your claim, remember that you only have 90 days from the game end date to do it.

Claiming By Prize Value

If you won a prize with an Iowa scratcher up to $600, you can redeem it at any lottery retailer in Iowa, if there are sufficient funds to do so.

For winnings up to and including $250,000, these can be redeemed at any of the Iowa lottery offices in Storm Lake, Mason City, Cedar Rapids, or Clive (Des Moines area).

You must claim any scratch off prize that is above $250,000 in person at the Iowa main office in Clive. If you are going to redeem your prize this way, then it is strongly advised to make an appointment beforehand, so that staff are available to help you with your claim.

It should be noted that a completed Winner Claim Form and Federal Form W-9 (for U.S. citizens) or Federal Form W-8BEN (for non-U.S citizens) is required for any prize above $100 claimed at an Iowa Lottery office. For any prizes more than $600, as well as the previously mentioned forms, you will also a valid copy of the winner's government-issues photo I.D.

Claiming By Mail

For any Iowa scratch off claims by mail, please send the required information to the following address. You will need to sign the back of your winning ticket, as well as complete the necessary name and address information. When mailing the ticket, be sure to also include your completed Winner Claim Form, Form W-9, and a copy of your photo I.D.

Iowa lottery prizes that are more thane $600 are subject to a 3.8 percent state witholding tax. For any prizes above $5,000, the winnings will also face an additional 24 percent federal witholding tax when the prize is claimed.
