The amount that you win with a Connecticut scratch off will change how you can make a claim. But before you do anything else, be sure to sign the back of your winning ticket because only the signature proves you own the ticket!
For prizes up to $599, you can claim by mail or in person at any CT Lottery Retailer. Please note that while most CT Lottery Retailers will redeem winning tickets, they are also of no legal obligation to do so. This is due to strict policies in place regarding how much money employees have access to within some stores. Therefore, some retailers may be unable to redeem a winning ticket for you. You always have the option to try another retailer.
For prizes between $600 and $5,000, you have the option to claim in person at any CT Lottery High-Tier Claim Center, at CT Lottery Headquarters, or by mail to CT Lottery Headquarters.
Prizes between $5,001 and $49,999 can be claimed by mail or in person at CT Lottery Headquarters.
For any winning ticket of $50,000 or more must be claimed in person at CT Lottery Headquarters.

For scratch cards in Connecticut, you can claim prizes of up to $49,999 by mail. If you choose this option you will need to sign and fill in all information on the back of ticket, complete a winner claim form, and include two copies of valid forms of identification. This will all need to be sent to the following address.
The Connecticut Lottery is required to withhold 24% for federal taxes, though in some instances the rate may be 30%, and 6.99% for state taxes on all prizes above $5,000. Additionally, the CT Lottery is required to report all winnings of $600 or more, and at least 300 times the amount of the wager, to the IRS.
